MIAMI, FL (December 29, 2010) - Internationally renowned pianist, Gabriela Montero, will dazzle listeners and critics with her one-of-a-kind style and improvisational skills in Miami, Florida on Friday, February 11, 2011, at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. (174 E. Flagler Street).
According to the New York Times, Gabriela Montero is an "exciting, brilliant, imaginative pianist - with a passion for improvisation,” and BBC Music Magazine raves, “For Beethoven and Liszt, classical improvisation was serious art. This statuesque Venezuelan proves the art is not lost."
Montero's improvisational skills separate her from today's pack of classical pianists. "I connect to my audience in a completely unique way – and they connect with me," she says. "Because improvisation is such a huge part of who I am, it is the most natural and spontaneous way I can express myself."
Montero’s credits include appearances on 60 Minutes, a Grammy award nomination, and the honor of performing at the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Sprinkled in between have been high profile performances with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic and several critically acclaimed album releases.
Montero's EMI-produced Bach and Beyond album introduced her to a United States audience that embraced her wholeheartedly, driving the album to its status as a Billboard bestseller in 2006. Her 2008 album, Baroque received 5-star reviews from authorities that included BBC Music Magazine, and her October 2010 album, Solatino, is on pace to continue her trend of stellar album releases.

The Festival has been presented by the famous choir of King's College, Cambridge. The world-wide radio broadcast of this event and, in later years, television broadcasts,have brought the beauty of this festival into the homes of countless millions around the world. The program includes carols both ancient and modern, sung by soloists and the choir, accompanied by the organ, flute, string quartet, recorder and vielle. There will be several familiar carols to be sung by all. Everyone is invited to attend a reception in the parish hall following the Festival. There is no charge for admission but a free-will offering will be received. The setting for the Festival is the beautiful candle-lit church. After an opening procession by the choir, acolytes, torch bearers and clergy, there are nine brief Lessons read by members of the congregation and the choir. The Lessons are interspersed with special carols, sung by the choir and accompanied by a string quartet, the organ and other instruments. The carols cover a wide span of musical history - from the 11th century Gregorian chant to the present day. In addition to the carols sung by the soloists and the choir, there are several familiar carols in which the congregation may join in singing.
